Meanwhile, from the first reading at Shakespeare's Globe, there's this rather fab poster for my archives:

I have recently read the BBC Radio 4 Book of The Week:Escape From Camp 14 by Blaine Harden, the shocking story of a North Korean man, born and raised in a political prison camp, who escaped to the West. It's a mind-boggling book, a real eye-opener, well worth reading.

I recorded a couple of episodes of a new TV series of Red Dwarf in late 2011, but am forbidden by the usual non-disclosure agreements to mention a syllable more until they go out this Autumn on cable channel Dave.

More telly: I appeared in Life's Too Short, playing a movie director who insults Warwick Davis and reassures a tearful Helena Bonham-Carter. I'm dying to see the DVD special features when it comes out in October, as we filmed dozens of rather shocking takes and I suspect some of them will make the cut. The series went out recently in the US, where it received rave reviews and there was very little controversy. Go figure.

For two months last Autumn in Manchester, I rehearsed and played the part of "Maurice" in the award-winning playGood at the Royal Exchange Theatre (above). I loved every minute of it. Even the panic and terror of appearing in my first stage play for over four years. Especially the panic and terror.

I also visited Glasgow for an evening on The Review Show. Despite the fact that it's a nationally broadcast live arts programme, it was quite relaxing compared to stage terror. Mark Kermode was the host (his first time in Kirsty and Martha's chair) and did a terrific job. I even found myself agreeing with him from time to time.

My most recent reviewing assignment: Saturday Review on BBC Radio 4.

I continue to co-organise and MC the free event calledTrue Stories Told Live. You can attend by registering on the TSTL web site:

True Stories Told Live put together a special benefit last July, including my friend, the wonderful jazz singer Barb Jungr. 250 people showed up to listen, laugh and learn. Here's a taste of how it went, filmed by Tim Bentinck:

I have a cameo in "A Fantastic Fear of Everything", based on a story by Bruce ("Withnail & I") Robinson, written and directed by Crispian (Kula Shaker) Mills and starring Simon (Big Hollywood Star) Pegg. I play a deeply creepy murderer (or is he?) with a moustache. And what a moustache. Release date: June, 2012.

I'm currently recording Series 2 of the BAFTA-winning"The Amazing World of Gumball", an amazing animation for The Cartoon Network. Series 1 is currently being broadcast in the UK and the USA. And recording is on-going for the new series of "Thomas and Friends" in which I voice the legendary Sir Topham Hatt and half a dozen legendary engines.

That's it and that's all. Do not adjust your sets.
